14A – Halfway Reflection

Tenacity & Paying It Forward Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?  1) Problem-solving, following directions, and keeping yourself organized are the most crucial in following the course. If you don't keep a to-do list of your priorities, you will lose yourself and miss assignments. Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this? 2) Having to work full-time for 9 hours a day at a political consulting firm then coming home to complete assignments is not easy. There were some days where I thought risking my grade by skipping assignments was worth a shot. Instead, I thought about the outcome and continue to remind myself that I am 2 semesters away from...

13A – Reading Reflection No. 1

Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson What surprised you the most? Jobs' story is so famous that a lot of what was written is already known by much of the public. The book itself practically reinforces the already known about him. What surprised me the most about his story is his overall personality. Jobs did not come off as a friendly guy, but a hard worker willing to do and say whatever it takes to accomplish his goals.  What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? What I admired most is the fact that he was rebellious in everything he did to accomplish his goals. He always tried to avoid living a normal life, and for that, he was able to pursue his passion.  What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? What I least admired was his arrogance and willingness to step over people to get the job done.  People even called him arrogant and obnoxious, but he sure knew how to stir the pot.  Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? I...

12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Sketching out the Beginning of the Buyer Behavior Process Three people who might exist in my venture's market were interviewed throughout Washington D.C., and factors that contributed to their unmet needs were very similar. Due to the lack of fitness center availability in their schedules and location, they turn to either not working out or waiting for the weekend to be able to travel to their centers to sneak in a few workouts. The most important part of the interviews conducted is that the interviewees all looked for simpler solutions to their problems. The prominent factor that stuck out during all 3 interviews was the idea that "they can go to the gym if they want to" but their actions prove otherwise. 2 of the interviewees didn't realize they had the unmet need until halfway through the conversation. It appears that they didn't want to admit that their daily lives would benefit from having a better schedule and/or having the fitness center in closer prox...

11A – Idea Napkin No. 1

Piecing it all together - Mobile Fitness Service I am a UF student currently living in the nation's capital, Washington D.C. Being that I've gone through several sales jobs and political experiences, I've been able to pick up better communication and public speaking skills. Although I've been involved in political advocacy, I am leaning more toward someday being my own boss and running a fitness style-related service. If I were to start this sort of concept, I would see it as a separate entity apart from my career, but eventually would try to manage the service full-time. The service I would be offering to customers is a mobile gym service. This would help those who are constrained on time and or don't want to travel long distances to find the right fitness center to them. I would be bringing the center to their home or place of choice. This means equipment, personal training, and diet regimens compacted into one. Aside from people who are short on time, age gro...

9A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Continuing My Opportunity Research   The interviews conducted were in regards to the unmet need of not having enough time and energy to travel to a fitness center before and after their job schedules.  Unfortunately, the overall interview process did not go as planned. To my surprise, three of the five interviewees did not agree with the idea that this was an unmet need. Their general belief was that they had fitness centers close enough to them that they didn't have to worry about the issue. However, when I would press them and asked questions like "tell me what your day-to-day schedule is like, and what times do you go to the gym?" two of the three had a wacky schedule that could definitely benefit from some sort of service. The other two interviews did agree that fitness centers were a bit far and there are days when they prefer to take the day off due to extra travel requirements and overall time. Three of the people interviewed work on Capitol Hill, while the ot...

8A – Solving The Problem

The Second-Most Important Part of Entrepreneurship The problem/Opportunity:  Lack of fitness centers and time constraints in the Washington DC area due to busy schedules. The solution is creating a mobile fitness service that brings equipment and the gym experience to people across the city. This can include a full truck filled with equipment and trainers, or simply a person who visits your choice of location instead of having to travel through traffic and long waiting periods. The client can choose a variety of workout experiences and can just jump right back into whatever it is they need to do instead of having to travel late at night or take unsafe routes. Overall, this service would work best for those without a vehicle, or a schedule that best fits with their workout regimen.

7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1

You Have An Opportunity, Now What? Lack of fitness centers and time constraints in the Washington DC area due to busy schedules. So the best opportunity would be creating a fitness service that travels directly to the customer.  The who: working people The what: unable to travel to fitness centers or don't have time to workout The why: Logistical challenges related due to travel and time constraint Testing the who : The phrase 'working people' is generalized, so anybody who works in the city who also has limited time for travel is included. Testing the what: Some individuals have better ways of travel with cars, carpool services, etc. but the majority have to take the metro or just don't have an opportunity near them so it consumes longer times for travel. Testing the why: Long work hours and the lack of local fitness center opportunities create difficulties in life and work areas. The city also has a limited amount of space for these centers to exist. ...

6A - Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic Opportunities  Adapting and creating opportunities to fight Climate change  A) Economic Trends panelists say it’s time to adapt to climate change B) Numerous economists agree that adapting to climate change will prevent the economy from taking a nosedive - meaning less damage brought to everyday people and longer-term sustainability. C) The prototypical customers are business CEOs, owners, and entrepreneurs who have an impact on their businesses. D) The opportunity is a bit difficult to exploit because not everybody is on the same page on climate change -  as far as the level of danger we have come to. * Seeing the opportunity: Being that I am tuned into the news cycle every day,  I notice that the political news sources tend to discuss the importance of climate change and the opportunities we can have at our disposal if lawmakers can agree that we have a problem, to begin with. The US-China Trade war is leaving farmers helpless, stemming pote...
