13A – Reading Reflection No. 1
Steve Jobs, Walter Isaacson
What surprised you the most?
Jobs' story is so famous that a lot of what was written is already known by much of the public. The book itself practically reinforces the already known about him. What surprised me the most about his story is his overall personality. Jobs did not come off as a friendly guy, but a hard worker willing to do and say whatever it takes to accomplish his goals.
What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
What I admired most is the fact that he was rebellious in everything he did to accomplish his goals. He always tried to avoid living a normal life, and for that, he was able to pursue his passion.
What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
What I least admired was his arrogance and willingness to step over people to get the job done. People even called him arrogant and obnoxious, but he sure knew how to stir the pot.
Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
In order to finally attain what he wanted, Jobs went through several launch failures throughout his career, including the Apple Lisa, Macintosh TV and more, this led to better market ideas and more product launches that led to success.
- Some of the competencies that Jobs exhibited include negotiation, risk-taking, envisioner, and perfectionism.
- Two questions I would ask Jobs is "What message do you have for young aspiring entrepreneurs who want to be the next you?" and "If you had your life over again, what would you do differently?"
- Jobs was the embodiment of hard work. I would say having a bit of arrogance mixed with plenty of risk-taking is definitely something I can agree on with him.
Joaq,
ReplyDeleteI picked a different book to read, however I really enjoyed reading your post about another book. I didn't read the book about Steve Jobs for the sole reason you stated, "Jobs' story is so famous that a lot of what was written is already known by much of the public." I felt that I was going to happen just read about what I knew already about him and you confirmed it. However, you most likely did learn something you did not know. I really enjoyed the part in your post specifically about what you admired the most and least about him. That question really makes you think and I believe you did a great job with it. Great post!
