14A – Halfway Reflection

Tenacity & Paying It Forward

Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?

1) Problem-solving, following directions, and keeping yourself organized are the most crucial in following the course. If you don't keep a to-do list of your priorities, you will lose yourself and miss assignments.

Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?

2) Having to work full-time for 9 hours a day at a political consulting firm then coming home to complete assignments is not easy. There were some days where I thought risking my grade by skipping assignments was worth a shot. Instead, I thought about the outcome and continue to remind myself that I am 2 semesters away from graduation. So after constantly motivating myself, I created a better work system by waking up earlier and completing my work before the job starts. That way, I can come home and rest instead of having to stress about everything. I would consider this being tenacious and not giving up, and so far, so good.

Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset'?

3) Confidence is the most important. This is an entrepreneurship class, meaning there are no right or wrong ideas when coming up with product or services ideas, so don't be shy to show your fellow students your creative side. Secondly, as mentioned above, I would make sure you work ahead to keep yourself mentally prepared for any harder assignments. Lastly, continue writing as much as possible and don't stop watching the lectures or reading the material because that will help your creative juices flowing and possibly help you come up with a business idea outside of the course.

  1. Hey Joaquin,

I agree that organizing yourself and allotting time for priorities is key to success, regardless of the endeavor. Organization of time and assignments is an easy way to keep yourself on track because the easiest way to both remember something and motivate yourself to do it is by writing it down on a list. Without at least minimal organization, I feel like anyone capable can end up not succeeding at a task because of forgetfulness. I also respect your tenacity juggling full-time employment and schooling.
