Metromover beats monorail for riders to Miami Beach, but costs more. Worth it?


The city of Miami is debating whether the new county-funded transit proposal should be built due to its high cost. The new route headed toward Miami Beach would generate 13,600 trips per day as opposed to the monorail that generates 8,900 trips a day.

The issue in this story is the high cost of $630 million to build. This problem is directed at the city of Miami and the taxpayers who will eventually provide the funds for the new system.  

Broward nursing home workers say Rick Scott destroyed evidence after hurricane deaths


Two healthcare workers charged with aggravated manslaughter are asking for their case to be dismissed after blaming former Gov. Rick Scott for destroying their defense evidence. They claim that the state violated due process by destroying voicemails nursing home employees left on Scott’s cellphone in the days following the storm.

 The issue in the story is that the healthcare workers are blaming the former governor over their case and want to be dismissed over their claims of evidence.
Florida Senate blocks cities like Key West from banning sunscreens


The Florida Senate passed legislation that would prohibit local governments from regulating drugs and cosmetics sold over the counter. This was taken after the battle between the city brewed over banning sunscreen due to its harmful effects on coral reefs, which is a key factor to their tourism economy. 

 The issue is that lawmakers blocked Key West from being able to ban these products. The issue would be aimed at city officials and who want to keep the environment safe.

Orlando airport leaders to consider deferring $15 an hour living wage


Orlando airport leaders are poised to delay a decision Wednesday on whether to enact a requirement that service workers get paid at least $15 an hour.

 Airport director Phil Brown cited “competing impacts on businesses and the fragmented implementation” that would arise from imposing a $15 per hour living wage as key reasons for holding off on a board vote.

 The issue in this article pertains to leaders voting on whether the minimum wage should be raised for airport employees and the minimum wage. The problem would be directed to the workers across the airport. 
I-4 entrance ramp to be closed for 6 months

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, an Interstate 4 entrance ramp from Colonial Drive will be closed for six months starting today. This will impact local areas for the next 6 months, creating heavier traffic conditions in the area to avoid conflict with the ongoing construction workers.

    Hi Joaquin, I really enoyed reading you post. The one that stood out to me the most was the article written about a hold on a debate on whether or not the minimune wage for airport employees should be increased. I peosnally feel that the work you perform as a service should be matched with the amont fo money you make, nothing more and nothing less than what you deserve.

    Hi Joaquin, I found several of the stories you gathered to be very interesting. Specifically, I felt the most two-sided problem is the situation with sunscreen in Key West. On one side, it can be dangerous to be outside for extended periods of time without sunscreen if you are in swimwear, but on the other hand, a serious part of the environment in the area that provides for the local economy is under attack by the same product. In this case, is the health of people or the health of the environment more important? The answer to the question changes likely whether the answer comes from someone local or not.

Evaluating How Your Customers Evaluate Stuff Being that I live in Washington D.C. the chosen segments for my interview were people who worked in the political sphere with busy schedules. During the interview process and because they were on the younger side, their methods of finding information and choosing alternatives/shopping were almost identical. Two of them discussed that they couldn't choose a product or service without going through a robust search of testimonies, prices, and alternatives online. We are in the digital era, and making a choice through the endless amounts of sites could make things easier but also more confusing because of the mass amount of information and different opinions available at the same time. My interviewees' most important qualities when depicting product choice were quality and then price, in that order. 12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Sketching out the Beginning of the Buyer Behavior Process Three people who might exist in my venture's market were interviewed throughout Washington D.C., and factors that contributed to their unmet needs were very similar. Due to the lack of fitness center availability in their schedules and location, they turn to either not working out or waiting for the weekend to be able to travel to their centers to sneak in a few workouts. The most important part of the interviews conducted is that the interviewees all looked for simpler solutions to their problems. The prominent factor that stuck out during all 3 interviews was the idea that "they can go to the gym if they want to" but their actions prove otherwise. 2 of the interviewees didn't realize they had the unmet need until halfway through the conversation.
