Bug List
We all have those day to day pet peeves that crawl under our skin. This is my official Bug List (that is most likely set to change in a week).
Here are 20 things that bug me and the reason they exist:
1. The overly crowded metro system in Washington D.C. during peak work hours. It's so easy to bump into people and make everyone uncomfortable.
* The Metro system is the cheapest form of travel -- creating an influx of people.
2. The water hammer noise my toilet makes while the water runs. It's so loud that the pipe shakes and creates enough noise to wake up the neighbors.
* The apartment building has issues with the water supply system that affects the toilets.
3. When people stand on the wrong side of the escalator and hold up those trying to get to work.
* Tourists aren't familiar with the unwritten rule, such as this one, as well as handicapped that can't do much movement.
4. When my apartment complex gym gets equipment stolen, so it's difficult to keep workouts consistent.
* The camera system in the fitness center seems to not work, so it's simple for people to sneak in there and take things.
5. The lack of gym equipment provided for building residents.
* The apartment building has a lot of expenses, to begin with, and there is only so much space to place things.
6. The Twitter/social media culture that expects you to have the same opinion as theirs.
* Today's culture in social media is different than it was a decade ago.
7. The polar political division felt between everyday conversations had on the street.
* Due to the evolution in political leadership. We have reached a boiling point on both sides.
8. The lack of breakfast choices in my neighborhood coffee shop.
* They provide a full menu with other lunch items, so there can only be so much for breakfast.
9. The oven light in my apartment that constantly goes out.
* The constant usage of the oven creates the light to go out quicker.
10. The difficulty in cleaning the shower.
* The shower design doesn't properly allow the water to run down the drain.
11. The lack of water pressure throughout different apartment buildings in my neighborhood.
* The building management companies have decided to conserve water by implementing a new system for the environment.
12. The payment plans associated with certain items like the iPhone and other day to day tools.
* New technology means more features and capabilities -- leading to more expenses.
13. The number of expenses associated with living in an apartment building.
* Due to the many amenities provided for residents.
14. The construction noises outside that wake me up before my alarm does.
* Because the neighborhood is a lot newer, construction is constant, and the odd hours helps prevent traffic during the day.
15. Having to spend my day doing my taxes.
* Every working person in the entire country has to do this. Taxes help our government invest back into it. (Debatable)
16. Moving to a different apartment and all of the tasks associated with it.
* Having to move and change things around helps others who want to move into the current apartment.
17. The toilet seat at my job's restroom that doesn't stay up when needed.
* The contractor seemed to have miscalculated the toilet tank measurements.
18. The number of places that don't consider your resume without a college degree.
* Because competition in Washington DC is so difficult, jobs need to weed out the vast number of people applying.
19. The lack of enthusiasm for ice hockey in South Florida.
* Florida's climate creates a higher demand for sports that don't involve ice.
20. Messy vehicles during Uber/Lyft travels.
* The companies don't have requirements to inspect driver vehicles, leading to potential messes.
PART 3: Difficulty
Not to toot my own horn here, but I found this list to be quite simple, especially being that I am a bit of a pessimist. I could even potentially add another 20 to the list if needed. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed taking the time to think about the cause behind an issue instead of seeing everything in black and white. This practice is something that can be used on a daily basis.

Hey Joaquin! Right off the bat I already related to the "bugs" involving your apartment complex, because mine can be similarly annoying when it comes to maintenance and the everyday noises from annoying people outside. In particular, I agree with the lack of gym equipment provided for building residents at apartment complexes, although I also understand why it can't be a fully stocked gym. I noticed that you have bugs centered around nuisances out of your control, but not necessarily caused by another person: for example a shower design preventing optimal cleaning. From that, I realized that to more effectively find opportunities for improvement in my life, I need to be wary of inefficient products that could be better.
ReplyDeleteHey Joaquin! I can relate to many of your bugs, especially the one about how ice hockey isn' that big in Florida compared to up North. I am a huge New Jersey Devils fan and hockey is one of my favorite sports. I can also relate to the lack of equipment your apartment place is providing. It makes it more difficult to workout and makes you get creative in trying to hit specific body parts. That's why I end up having to go to Southwest to workout most of the time. You had many good bugs that many people would agree are reasonable. Great post I enjoyed reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteHey Joaquin! I really enjoyed reading your bug list and the reasons behind your beliefs that these exist in the first place! I can relate to most of these bugs that you wrote about mostly because were both college students. I especially can relate to the bug you stated, "Moving to a different apartment and all of the tasks associated with it." I had to move twice during last semester due to an infestation with cockroaches in my current apartment, therefore I can totally agree with you that it is such a hassle and a bug for me as well. Overall, you did a really nice job with this assignment and I'm sure many of us can agree with more than one of your bug on this list. Also, I think you made some great points and reasonings behind the problems on this list. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi Jooaquin, your bug list was entertaining to read! I found that I too was bothered by many of the things you listed. This is especially true for #19 because I have moved over a dozen times in my life and I know how frustrating it is. I think you did a great job at reflecting on the real issues behind the things on your bug list. Overall, your bug list and your reasoning for each one was well thought-out. Great blog post!
